American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings (AAM), a tier 1 supplier of driveline and drivetrain systems and related components for the automotive industry, has expanded its manufacturing presence in Asia, with the opening of new facility in Rayong, Thailand.

The products manufactured at the Rayong manufacturing facility include front axles, rear axles; and driveshafts.

Joseph Tang, the plant manager of Rayong Manufacturing Facility, will oversee the facility's manufacture of highly engineered and driveline products for the region.

AAM executive vice president of worldwide operations John Bellanti said the company is extremely pleased to celebrate the opening of its sixth regional manufacturing operation in Asia.

"Rayong Manufacturing Facility will allow us to leverage AAM's historic track record of world-class quality, delivery, reliability and outstanding warranty performance while furthering AAM's global expansion strategy in the second largest pickup truck market in the world," Bellanti said.

AAM VP and AAM Asia president Steven Proctor said profitable growth in Asia is a key component of the company's global business strategy.

"This new manufacturing facility reflects this commitment to Asia while allowing us to provide advanced-technology products for current and potential new customers throughout the region," Proctor said.

The new Rayong manufacturing facility occupies approximately 125,000 sq ft of manufacturing space, with an additional 13,000 sq ft dedicated to administration.

The facility currently employes 195 associates and when fully operational, it will have approximately 275 engineering and manufacturing associates.
