BorgWarner delivers components for Hyundai 8-speed transmission

ABR Staff Writer Published 28 September 2011

BorgWarner, a provider of components for vehicle powertrain applications, has supplied transmission components, for Hyundai's new 8-speed automatic rear-wheel drive transmission, which include friction plates and roller one-way clutches.

The new transmission has been designed and assembled by Hyundai Powertech, a performance and R&D unit of Hyundai features a multi-step design with a wide gear span.

The company said that the new transmission will drive the recently-launched 4.6L Hyundai Equus, Hyundai Genesis, Kia Mohave and also the 3.8L Hyundai Genesis for the domestic Korean market.

BorgWarner Transmission Systems president and general manager Robin Kendrick said the company is pleased to produce components locally for this new transmission.

"We look forward to continuing our 20-year relationship with Hyundai and Kia and supporting their success as major global automotive manufacturers," Kendrick said.

The company's friction systems provide friction and efficiency characteristics for a range of clutch applications, including high-energy applications.

The company provides one-way clutch systems for transmission positions not requiring a wet friction clutch.
