BorgWarner provides B series turbocharger for Mercedes engine
BorgWarner, a provider of components for vehicle powertrain applications, is providing the B-series turbochargers for the new Mercedes-Benz 12.8-liter six-cylinder in-line Blue Efficiency Power engine.
The new asymmetric twin scroll turbine housing includes two scrolls of different sizes for separate exhaust gas routing to deliver high exhaust gas recirculation rates for efficiently reducing NOx emissions.
The new engine will produce an output of 310 kW (421 hp) to 375 kW (510 hp) and will be used in on-road commercial vehicles as well as off-highway vehicles.
BorgWarner Turbo Systems Commercial Diesel Products president and general manager Pete Kohler said the new Blue EfficiencyPower engine is the result of the continuing and successful collaboration between Daimler Trucks and BorgWarner.
"We are pleased to contribute our years of turbocharging experience to the success of this outstanding engine," Kohler said.
"Around the world, commercial and off-highway drivers will appreciate the benefits of improved performance, increased fuel economy and reduced emissions."
The new turbocharging technology meets Daimler's demands for system robustness and durability by delivering enhanced fuel economy, performance and low emissions.
The company is also supplying the turbochargers to Daimler's, EPA10-compliant engine which will power Freightliner commercial trucks.
