BorgWarner to supply TOD transfer cases for new Ford F-150 trucks

ABR Staff Writer Published 23 March 2012

BorgWarner, a provider of components for vehicle powertrain applications, has received a contract from Ford to supply Torque-On-Demand (TOD) two-speed transfer cases for its 2012 F-150 Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum models.

The two-speed active all-wheel drive system for F-150 pickup trucks will feature 4-high, 4-low, full-time and automatic all-wheel drive modes.

According to company, the TOD active all-wheel drive technology will offer enhanced traction, stability and dynamics.

BorgWarner TorqTransfer Systems president and general manager Joe Fadool said the company's TOD technology automatically redistributes torque from the rear wheels to the front wheels without driver intervention.

The truck's control systems examine the signals including steering wheel angle, accelerator pedal position and wheel speeds, and commands the TOD transfer case to deliver the needed torque to the front and rear axles.
