Fiat to supply 1.6L diesel engines to Suzuki

ABR Staff Writer Published 28 June 2011

Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT) has signed an agreement with Suzuki Motor to supply 1.6-liter diesel engines to power Suzuki's new model.

The low fuel consumption 1.6L diesel engine will be installed on the new model scheduled to be produced in Magyar Suzuki Corporation in Hungary from 2013.

The Japanese automaker has been equipping 2.0L diesel engines from Fiat Powertrain Technologies on Magyar-produced SX4 from 2006.

Since 2006, Suzuki has been making license production of FPT's 1.3L diesel engine in India's production subsidiary, Suzuki Powertrain India, and has produced 200 thousand units last year.

The Indian-produced diesel engine is equipped on Indian domestic model, and is also exported to Magyar Suzuki.
