US carmaker Ford Motor has introduced new four-cylinder 1.5L EcoBoost engine, which will make its global debut at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show in China.

The new engine incorporates a computer-controlled clutch on the belt-drive water pump, which is aimed at improving efficiencies by cutting down warm-up time, while a water-cooled charge air cooler is also equipped to increase feed of air into the engine.

Ford currently has capacity to produce 1.6 million EcoBoost engines per year, while by late 2013, six plants across Europe, Asia and North America will commence production of EcoBoost engines as well as triple the manufacturing plants that produce the engines.

Initially, the production of the new engine will be carried out at the carmaker's Craiova facility in Romania during late April 2013, with further locations to be planned.

The new engine will initially power the new Ford Mondeo in China, followed by the Fusion sedan in North America in 2013, along with European debut in new Mondeo.
