Magna opens new manufacturing facility in Mexico

ABR Staff Writer Published 01 May 2014

Automotive supplier Magna International's Magna Powertrain (MPT) operating unit has broken ground on a new manufacturing facility in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila in Mexico.

The new facility will be built with an investment of about $75m and will be MPT's third building in the region.

Scheduled to launch in 2016, the new facility will have an area of 16,000m² and will support the addition of new business as well as increase operations at Ramos Arizpe.

Magna Powertrain president Jake Hirsch said the MPT Ramos has become a global Center of Excellence for Magna Powertrain's AWD and 4WD product lines.

"This new facility will allow us to extend our AWD capabilities and further our position as a world leader in this field," Hirsch added.

MPT Ramos will produce and supply all-wheel drive systems for vehicles manufactured by Volkswagen's luxury brand Audi.
