MAZDA to supply Skyactiv-D Clean Diesel engine for 2013 Le Mans

Mazda Motorsports is planning to supply the racing variants of its new Skyactiv-D Clean Diesel engine for the participants of the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class of International motorsport, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in France.

The engines are currently being developed jointly by Mazda Motor, Mazda North American Operations and SpeedSource Race Engineering.

Mazda said that it has already begun the Dyno testing and on-track testing is expected to begin in late 2012.

According to the company, the engines will be stock-block Mazda SKYACTIV-D 2.2litre diesel four-cylinder, dual-stage turbocharged powertrain, which are expected to deliver enhanced performance and fuel economy.
