Nexteer expands presence in Australia

ABR Staff Writer Published 12 September 2011

Nexteer Automotive, a tier one automotive supplier of wheel-to-wheel steering and driveline systems, will receive $63m over the next three years from the Australian Government's Green Car Innovation Fund (GCIF) to expand its manufacturing operations in Melbourne, Australia.

The company said that the expansion will allow for design, development and production of electric power steering along with lightweight steering and driveline products.

The funding to develop and manufacture the technology is expected to create more than 250 local automotive industry jobs and help reduce fuel consumption and emissions around the world.

Nexteer vice president for Asia Pacific Lloyd Doddridge said by developing this new world class manufacturing footprint over three years, it will support the reinvigoration of a second and third tier manufacturing base and extending the Australian supply chain.
