Nissan to equip new Titan truck with Cummins engine

ABR Staff Writer Published 21 August 2013

Japanese carmaker Nissan will introduce a newly-developed Cummins V8 turbo diesel engine in the new full-size Titan pickup truck.

The new 5L V8 turbo diesel engine is claimed to generate an output of over 300hp with a torque of about 500lbft.

Developed under the partnership between Nissan and Cummins, the engine is said to be at the latter stages of development and undergoing testing.

Nissan Service and Parts sales and marketing vice president Fred Diaz said the company has a truck that will give a tough competition in the market.

"We're going to be the only ones to have a V8 diesel in a 1500 truck which is a pretty neat space to play in because you're actually going to be more powerful and bigger and have more capability than a 1500 but not quite at the level of a 2500," Diaz said.

US based engine parts manufacturer Cummins will produce the new V8 engines at its Columbus Engine Plant in Indiana, US.

Nissan will build the new Titan pick ups at its Canton, Mississippi vehicle assembly plant, while the vehicle's gasoline engines will be made and assembled at the company's Decherd, Tennessee power train plant.
