Riversimple Unveils Hydrogen-powered Car
The company plans to lease the vehicles at an estimated price of $315 per month.
UK-based Riversimple has unveiled a prototype, two-seater hydrogen-powered car, specifically designed for city transport. The company expects to start vehicle production by 2013, reported BBC.
Riversimple has partnered with gas supply company BOC, to install hydrogen stations in the city where the prototypes are introduced. It plans to lease, not sell, the vehicles at an estimated $315 per month, with fuel and repair costs included.
The car can reach up to 50mph and travel 240 miles on one small tank of hydrogen weighing 2.2lbs. The car employs a 6kw fuel cell made by China's Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies, that converts hydrogen into electricity.
Riversimple developed the car in collaboration with Oxford University, Cranfield University, and Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies.
